Five Questions for Erica Kahn

Most junior riders don’t use a big equitation class as a warm-up for anything. Erica Kahn was 15 when she competed in her first ASPCA Maclay at the Vermont Summer Series. She did it as a favor to fill the class and won. By age 17 Erica was winning at 1.45 meter, consistently placing in mini prixs, and using the big equitation classes, quite often, as a school for the junior jumpers. During her last two junior years she was trained by her mom Sandra Kahn, an entrepreneur, and in 2009, Erica earned $3,652 in prize money, narrowly missing a spot on the Zone 4 Team for the National Junior Jumper Championship. Her riding style and success clearly exhibit the result of solid equitation and she now trains with Frank Madden, at Madden Show Stables, with the goal of becoming a grand prix rider.
